Horseshoe Bay

The Big Mango

The BIG Mango represents the delicious fruit which carries the name sake of the town “Bowen Mango”. The BIG Mango is located at the Bowen Visitor Information Centre, 4 km south of Bowen on the Bruce Highway.

Bowen Murals and Museum

The Museum contains one of the major collections of its kind in Queensland, comprising museum pieces, Aboriginal artefacts, natural history exhibits and written records, including documents and papers, newspapers.

Proudly displayed throughout Bowen’s streets, 25 bright and colourful murals depict the rich and historical past of the town’s early settlement history, through to present day. Illustrating the history of The Newspaper, Pioneer Women, Early Farming Days, the Federation of Port and much more, the murals have been painted by well-known Queensland artists, one by the art students of Bowen High School and one also by famed artist Ken Done.

Seafood Straight off the Boats

Head on over to the harbour for fresh seafood straight off the boats from Arabon or Bowen Fisherman’s Seafood, or if you would rather fish and chips on the beach duck into Fellows Fish Bar.

Bowen front beach and foreshore is a well maintained and perfectly manicured and located directly across the road from Port Denison Motor Inn. The foreshore features:

  • shelter sheds and BBQs for family outings,
  • the Tourist Information Centre,
  • Bowen Jetty; and
  • Bowen Soundshell – home to many of Bowens major events including the Superboats, Fishing Classic and quarterly free Sunday Sessions.
